Charged for Xbox Live gold but not given xbox live gold

. On October 24th i checked my transactions on my card and it said i was charged 9.99 for Gold on the date of October 23rd. I checked my Xbox Live account to find that i did not have Gold but instead i have Silver. I was wondering why didn't have Xbox Live Gold? Thank you for any help you can provide.
