Cant use xbox live in games

everywhere it says i have gold but once i go to use it in a game it tells me i don't have a gold subscription

i purchased it online yesterday and it says when i log in on my console that i have gold but when i try to play games online it says i don't

The only thing I can think of is that it just hasn't synced up with your account correctly. Try signing out and then signing back in to see if that does anything. If it doesn't, try recovering your account - support.xbox.com/.../gamer-profile.aspx

my account is synced perficty, i have bought memberships from Microsoft online and they worked
