Can't Play - Unsupported File Format

Hi,

I have an Xbox Music subscription in full swing but I am having problems with playback. I keep getting an error message every so often that says:

"Can't Play because the items file format isn't supported. Check the store to see if this item is available there. 0xc1010090 (0xc1010090)"

I don't understand two things, if the file type is unsupported then why are you letting these songs appear in Xbox Music (I am purely streaming everything I have none of my own content in the library)? And also why is this happening to songs only sometimes during playback? I find sometimes it will throw this error then later it will play fine.

Thank you,

Hi Mortus27! What device are you having this error on? On a Windows 8 PC, Windows Phone 8, or your Xbox 360 console? If the latter, have you tried downloading the optional media update? You can do so by following the below instructions:

  1. Go to Bing, and search for "Optional Media Update."
  2. Select Optional Media Update
  3. Select Optional Media Update again.
  4. Select Confirm Download. The download is free.
  5. Once your download is complete, select Continue, and then return to the Xbox Dashboard.

I actually use it on both Windows 8 PC as well as Xbox, I am however only getting errors on the PC. It is a HP Envy X2 and all the drivers are up to date. Do you have any suggestions or a PC fix?

Hi Mortus27! Ah, okay - this looks to be an issue we're currently looking into for the PC. Once I get more information, I will be sure to post back, but in the meantime, we greatly appreciate your patience!

Cool thanks for your help, might un-subscribe in the meantime until it's fixed, it's just too annoying.
