Can't play any games, but an install disc worked fine.

No game works on my 360, its not because of any scratches. I just got Gta 5 and the install disc worked just fine, but it wont play the game disc. I have two 360s, one white and one black. The white one works just fine and the black one is the one that wont play games. They both look the same besides color. Its not just Gta 5 though, it wont play any other game I have. It was a used 360 and it was working when I got it.  I'm looking for help on why it wont read any game.

G'day jaxblnxz! We have a few questions for you, and a few steps to try:

  1. What happens specifically when you try to play a game in the console?
  2. Is it only disc-based games that are affected, or are you unable to play downloaded Games on Demand too?

Please take a look at our disc drive guide first to make sure you've tried all the steps there. Also clear your cache and then restart the console.

Let us know how that goes, and we can keep working from there. =)

For the questions, nothing happens when I try to play it will behave just like when it can't read a scratched disk. I can play downloaded games just fine.

Thanks for trying the steps so far.

Do you have any accessories attached to the console, like a capture card, USB flash drive, or a 3rd party headset? If you do, let's remove those and try starting a game without them.

Let's also take a look at your console's hard drive. Is it an official device? Try this, and remember to only move hard drives with the consoles powered down:

  • Remove the hard drive from the console that won't read games (black console).
  • Remove the hard drive from the working (white) console and attach it to the black console.
  • Turn on the black console and try to play any game on it that didn't work previously.

Let's see how these work out. Let us know!
