better connection to the host

hey,

I'm sure a lot of you have this same problem, but what drives me crazy is when everyone seems to have the upper hand to me because they have a better connection to the host.  As far as bars go, 3 is usually standard for me and sometimes will get 4.  What happens when I die is I'll be firing several shots into someone, and they won't die, and they will fire 2 shots at me, and i'm dead.  What drives me crazy in the killcam.  It shows that I barely fired anything at them.  occasionally, I will get a better connection to the host and all my bullets will actually register a lot more.  Any tips on what I can do to get the kind of connection I want to the host?  The things I have done is wired my connection, installed the game to the xbox, cleared cache and changed the settings to local only.  Is there anything else I could do, or is this a commonality of playing online that I need to accept and get over?

p.s. I did a pingtest, and it seemed to test at about 60 ms, which i believe is fine.

p.s.s. I also did a speedtest, and it's about 1.5 mbps, which is plenty for black opps I believe

Is anyone uploading pics or vids online while you're playing?  Facebook or torrents or anything?  I know from experience, that will totally kill your online gameplay.

All three factors play a part in your connection to other players (download speed, upload speed and ping). The higher the ping the greater the lag you will experience. Of course this game is known for its poor net coding so even players with great connections suffer.

The poster above is also correct. If anyone else is using your bandwidth, even idle machines use bandwidth, that wold affect your game play on XBL depending on your internet connection speed. Be sure no one else is using the internet when you are playing, you may even want to turn off or unplug any devices that normally use your network just to see if one or more of those could be the reason for your lag.

You seem to have done everything you can possibly do from your end. The rest you can not control. When a Game uses p2p instead of dedicated servers there will always be connection issues.

I think both posters in reply to the OP are full of it...We have 5 computers/lap tops, not including the Zune's. Kindle, and Cruz's. All running off of one Netgear router. Never have I had LAG because my fiance was playing Cityville, her sister downloading a book from Amazon, my brother surfing porn sites, or my daughter streaming Yo-Gabba-Gabba on Netflix.

A speed test showed that my internet is average.(What else would you get from Time Warner?)

^^^ Average .......... just what was it that it said was average?. I have a 3 down 1 up connection, and I know if someone is using the internet in my house, I'm not ging to have a good game.

As far as other suggestions .......... you could try running your cable straight from your modem to your console. Or ( what I do ) ...... use a hub. My modem feeds my hub. One  line from the hub feeds my console and another feeds my router.

Routers have a lot of security features that can slow you down a bit.

Also make sure all your connections are plugged in firmly, and have good wires. Any connection point can add to the problem.

I also used a program called robo test. It is better than a ping test in the sense that you can set it to ping a server every so often to log your connection over a long period. It could show you havig issues with your provider, and what times of day will do best.

I mean my connection was 50% better than the rest of the US....Im guessing that's pretty average.

     Up speed? Down Speed? Ping?

A connection that is 50% better than the rest would be considerably above average.

Its only common sense that downloading/uploading stuff on the internet is going to cut into your bandwidth for gaming, unless you have a really good provider.

Hardly have anything going on as far as people using the internet.  Quite honestly, I think my connection is fine.  I pretty don't have to deal with any obvious lag, except with a few less bullets registering.  As Temhotabot said, the game is know for it's bad gaming net coding.  That does kinda make sense cuz I've seen other people complaining bout this issue as well.  As I said, there are other times when it seems that getting kills super easy, and other times not.  Guess it just depends :/

6.27 Mbps up

922 kbps Down

At least I thought thats what it was....btw from this site 50% is average Im at 65% so It a little more than average.

Again....while..streaming Netflix up stairs and watching MLB.tv..

For the easiest fix imo .......... play hardcore mode.

Hardcore is pretty much about who shoots first. Granted, youll have some laggy times occasionally, but far less bs deaths.
