8 months ago a Microsoft arcade game was released on the Xbox 360 called Ascend: Hand of Kul. This was released with the availability to do Micro transaction. Signal Studio put word out to their customers that lots of updates were coming. The promise of PVP addition , Co-op, and an Extra Campaign fueled literally Millions of dollars in Micro transactions. The game had a million players in the first week! That was 8 or 9 months ago. I have since given up on Microsoft holding true to this content release because so much time has passed. I blew 70 bucks on Micro transactions back then to prepare for up coming content release. This is a Microsoft title. Microsoft did not ever release the content for the game nor did they comment on when this extra content would arrive. Fact if you go into the game there is still more content listed as unavailable "coming soon" than stuff you can play.
Should we as customers expect this type of situation in the future? Why would Microsoft being a large company take advantage of people like this and simply stop making the game after that much revenue from micro transactions.
Well I'll fill you in on the impact that simple business decisions like this have. Think about how a large corporation like Microsoft would in ways represent the USA in software and technology especially when doing business with foreigners at an individual level as well as business across seas. In other countries acts like this are considered very serious. Companies sell content and fail to deliver all the time in the US. In fact our citizens have learned to adapt to it, look out for it, and perform background checks to see a companies track record. 2nd and 3rd World countries this is a grave mistake to cheat a million people. This kind of act would bring very harsh consequences for anyone involved in the company.
Now lets talk about the million customers that help bring all this micro transaction revenue into Microsoft. How many of them customers were in fact foreigners and how many bought a bunch of micro transaction content for the game because of the fact the company told everyone they are releasing the amount of content to double or even triple the gameplay available? Do you see my point here ? Not only is Microsoft ripping off and misleading the citizens in it's own country, your giving the United States of America a bad and misleading name to other countries. I would in fact say the world has enough trouble getting along. There is no need what so ever for large corporations with big names representing a lot of people to go about earning their money in this manner. Or to make commitments in business and not deliver.
