Adding a credit card to buy credit

I am trying to set up my credit card so i can buy credit from my xbox. After entering all of the information, it says "Cant retrieve information from xbox live. please try again later." with status code: 8382012D. Why won't it work?

I'm having the same problems.  I can't even enter my credit card on xbox.com as it keeps telling me to enter a valid visa number when it's exactly how it appears on my card.  Not quite sure what do to with this one..I've tried setting up my port forwarding with xbox360, clearing the cache for xbox live marketplace and nothing seems to fix this.

Ive tried 3 different cards as well as pay pal. Support had no solutions other than suggesting that I contact my credit card company (which is obviously not the problem since this issue is happening BEFORE the authorization process even begins).

I have the same problem and I just spent a good 45 minutes online with customer care. They could not find an answer and we tried multiple things. In the end I used one of those "product codes" which you enter in, instead of a credit card. Looks like that's how I'll be doing things for the time being, but now I can still do everything I used to (except use a credit card).

I told Microsoft about this problem. Hopefully they'll fix it. Next gen, I'm getting a playstation.

@ damn0dirty0ape - nice suggestion but I tried today and found out that retail stores only sell GOLD prepaid cards and not FAMILY PACK prepaid cards ... so that would cost me $180 for 3 accts compared to $99 for the family pack of 4.

???? anyone ???? there has to be a solution to this. I've seen multiple threads and posts about this issue but no resolutions.

I'm getting kinda piss3d off about purchasing my xBox now. Here are 5 seperate threads about the same issues (credit cards cant be saved online <or> bogus unknown errors when trying to purchase through the console). None of the threads have any response from Microsoft ....

Hey all! We can certainly understand the frustration. We do need to ask you to verify a few things:

  • Is your billing information accurate and up to date? You can check that info here: billing.microsoft.com 
  • Is this a prepaid credit or debit card? 
  • Have you tried it on both the console and xbox.com? 
  • Have you checked with your bank to see if they have placed any sort of restrictions on the card? 
  • What is the exact error message you get, and when?

same thing is happening to me, it happens right after I enter my address (from trying to set up a new billing account)

the error message is

Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live.  Please try again later.

Status Code: 8382012D

Now obviously this has something to do with xbox live since it seems to be happening to a lot of people and I sure as hell better not be getting charged for the 3months of xbox live either since it's not even working!

No there are no restrictions on my card and no i haven't tried it on here cause im pretty sure the same damn thing is gonna happen!

actually now that I think about it...is everyone else trying to buy the 3months for £6 gold? That;s what im trying to get, I noticed that offer isn't on the website itself.  For American users, are you trying to click into a special offer price? Maybe thats where xbox has *** up!
