Xbox won't update.

I've got a Sep 2006 Xbox 360 that won't update itself.

I've tried it with the USB and CD and with live. Always fails.

I've cleared cache numerous times and reformatted the hard drive. I've tried it with no hard drive and with a different hard drive on it.

It has dashboard version 2.0.7363.0  I've been reading online that this particular update won't allow itself to be updated unless the HDD which was on when it was updated to version 2.0.7363.0 is installed. unfortunately an Xbox 360 has been sent away for repair and I doubt it was the same one when it returned.

Everytime it is turned it this message appears:

To proceed, security and program updates are required. Console updates will be added to ensure security and proper functionality. If you decline, you will be returned to the Xbox Dashboard

If I accept this it just restarts and comes up again. If I decline it loads to the dashboard. However because it won't update itself all the newer games don't work because they want to update the Xbox 360 and it can't do it.

It can however play Halo 3 normally, being an older game.

Attempts to update come up with, update failed, can't read the discs etc.

I'm really stumped on how to update this console and get it playing all the latest games.

Hello Bom There It Is

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this, however it seems like the console is using an update that had caused the problems mentioned in your post.

It would be best advised to call Xbox Support via telephone, where you may discuss what has happened.

The solution is likely to be sending the console to your regional repair centre.

If you are from the US or Canada, please contact Xbox Support at 1-800-469-9269 (1-800-4MY-XBOX)

If you are outside of US or Canada, please consult your support documents or this website for the telephone  number.

Hope this helps

Best regards

Jordan

To be sure, have you tried updating with the HDD removed, too?

Yes I have tried updating without the hard drive installed.

As it is out of warranty I think its cheaper buying another second hand Xbox 360 than send it for repair.
