What you have here is called the ring of death which can be caused by many reasons. if your xbox is still in warranty you can ship it off for repair for free if your not in warranty it will cost for a repair. myservice.xbox.com/.../Welcome.aspx

Basicly your xbox has gone faulty and needs a repair as soon as possible once its repaired it will stop turning off my theory is it got the ring of death caused by power heating but it could be various reasons which is why it needs to be looked at and be mended asap.

Hey there VestigialYew9!  My apologies to hear about the 4 flashing red lights on the console.  Could you please review this thread forums.xbox.com/.../153180.aspx for help with that issue and let us know if that helps?  Thanks! :)

Sounds like you have a faulty Disk Drive and this maybe causing your Red Rings, you are going to have to send it in for repair. Red Rings mean different things and there are certain quadrants setup for Hardware Failure, which this sounds like, putting a game in while the console boots up correctly then it red rings.

Unfortunately is does sound like you've god the Red Ring Of Death, as people have said, check to see if it's still in warranty (I believe it's for a year after buying it but I could be wrong). If it is then you can send it off and they either fix it or send you a new one for free depending on what's wrong with it, if not then you'll more than likely have to pay for it to be repaired. Sorry to hear that all this has happened.

As everyone else has said you have the RRoD, when your console displays the red lights hold down he sync botton and press the eject button 4 times. For each eject button press remember the number of ligts displayed and post them here. An example would be 4144.

You could make sure your wires are all connected properly, this is a common problem.

How often do you use your xbox? if you over use it it can over heat sometimes even with a fan if this happens try giving it one day then try again if not it maybe another issue with the hard drive.
