Xbox "Clear system cache" not working.

I'm not sure if it's meant to be on here, but it is a Xbox support forum afterall.

I want to clear my system cache and I do all the steps it tells me on : http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/settings-and-initial-setup/clear-system-cache , when I choose "Yes" on the opition it gives me, the screen comes up,( the one that says "Running maintenance on your xBox", Or something to that), for around one or two seconds and then closes. When I try to go onto a game, I don't get any notice about a need to "update" because the clearing failed it seems. Anyone know how to solve this?

You can try to hold the controller sync button on the console and see if this will clear the update that is failing.

What update are you trying to clear?

Is there an error or is a game not loading?

I tried that. Didn't work.

It's the latest update for Dragonage 2, I'm not sure when it came out since I began playing it yesterday after I stopped for a while. And the game just freezes, the disc is perfectly clean and such.

Ya the sync button is for system updates that fail, but figured it was worth a shot.

And it is the DA2 that is giving the problem, can you check your DA2 folder on the hard drive to see if there is anything that could be a problem.

You can try removing the Hard Drive and using a USB device for storage to see if the problem might be with the hard drive.

And when you say freeze, do it come up all Blocky like a chess board with all different colors?

Not all patches are stored in the cache. So clearing the cache doesn't clear all patches.

If the patch is 6MB or greater it will be stored on the main partition of the hard drive with the saves.

So if you look where the saves are you will see the title update listed there.

Thats normal. The system cache has been cleared.

If you are trying to delete a game update and the update isn't clearing then that is because only updates less than 6MB are stored in the cache. Updates 6MB or greater are stored on the HDD in the same area as saves. You need to delete those ones manually.

Like what stated earlier, if it's saying that it's "performing maintenance" on your console and doesn't give an error, then it's working.  It doesn't always make you re-download updates.
