XBOX Power

My XBOX keeps turning on and off by itself and will randomly open and close the tray. It will power on and then off and then on again within a matter of seconds. Anybody have ANY idea what to do?

Which model of 360 do you have? If you have a 360S make sure you have nothing near the front of the console that could be touching the power/tray eject as they can be pretty sensitive.

If not, please share more information about which kind of 360 you have.

I have the 360 Halo Reach edition. It does have the sensitive tray button and such but nothing is touching it, all wires are clear of it and nothing is close to it.

Two things I have heard of working

  • Try using a damp, very wrung out, washcloth with out anything but water (no soap/chemicals) and gently clean the power button and the eject button. Sometimes debris, dust, finger prints and play-do (if you have kids) makes it's way into the nooks and crannies of the console causing the console to act strangely but in reality it thinks someone is pressing those buttons.

  • Another odd thing I have heard of is flourescent lighting in the room near the console can effect the console by random ejects and power off's. Try moving the console to another part of the room and/or ensure nothing flourescent is near it also including radios and other electrical equipment (beside the obviously required TV).
