Xbox One overheating issue

My Xbox one automatically shuts down after a few minutes. It gets quite hot, even without playing a game and i am pretty sure the Xbox shuts down because of the heat. I let it cool down 2 or 3 times now, but the same thing happens all over again (fyi, the console is standing out in the open and the room is not a sauna).

Who else is affected and are there any workarounds?

Sounds like you may have a bad fan.  It really only has one giant fan and a BIG heatsink, so if the fan isn't working, it will overheat quickly.

Just sent mine back for replacement.  Same thing.  What a pain.  At least they ship out the temporary replacement right away instead of waiting to receive the broken console.

Just want to add to this thread and keep it alive because apparently this issue is still going around.

My console overheats and automatically shuts off after a short period of time even if its just sitting on the home screen for the entirety of it. I am notified with an overheating warning screen when I attempt to turn it back on, explaining how the console shut off to prevent further hardware damage, along with suggestions on how to store the console to prevent the blocking of ventilation.

The console is still under the free replacement warranty, so I'm sending it in for a working unit using their "Advanced Exchange" program which should take about a week to arrive.
