Xbox One controller for Windows 7 - Driver issues

- I have tried installing both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers, restarting, plugging in, doesn't work.

- I have tried 10+ times uninstalling drivers, allowing windows to manually install by itself, doesn't work.

- I have tried two different microUSB cables. Including cables that work on my friend's laptop, on 4 different usb ports.

- I have tried backing up the drivers from my friends laptop where the controller+cable works, then restoring the drivers on my laptop, still doesn't work.

When I plug in the controller, windows tries searching for a driver, then can't find one.

In "Devices and Printers", it is listed as "Unspecified" category, "Controller".

"Model: Controller. Category: Unknown. Status: Needs troubleshooting."

Troubleshooting does not help, it doesn't locate a driver. I have tried manually having it locate the drivers within my desktop, but it says it doesn't see any, despite me having all of the driver msi files and the dll/sys/inf files there.

Any advice?
