XBOX not accepting wireless security key

Hello, I am using an USB wireless adapter to get on the internet from my XBOX 360. While setting up, I am giving it the same 26 character key that I use for all other devices. It says the key is incorrect. I am using WPA2-personal TKIP security.

Hi Port! Have you ensured the spelling/capitalization is correct? Made sure the 0's aren't O's, and the 5's aren't S's? Also, what is the make/model of your router?

Let us know. Thanks!

TKIP is not compatible with the Xbox360, and is lame besides. Please change to the Federally approved and much stronger AES encryption. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Encryption_Standard

I have confirmed that it works when the wireless is completely open, no key. Therefore the two answers suggested below don't seem to be right. A) It does work with a non-XBOX 360 wireless b) It does work with security other than WPA2-TKIP. The fact that TKIP is not as secure as AES should have no bearing on it given that it works when it is completely open.

Hi

So you are saying it works with no security or WPA2-AES

but not WPA2-TKIP

Is that right?

Why not use AES it is better and the Xbox is known to have compatibility issues with some implementations of TKIP

Hello,

On the forum at www.gamespot.com/.../26094327 another gamer says he found exactly opposite results as suggested here. He found TKIP working right for xbox360 but not aes. I used to have wpa2-tkip+aes on my router. But the iPhones in my home drop the connection with that one. wpa2-tkip makes iPhones happy. The poster in the above forum says 15 character happens. password worked for him. I have 26 character password right now. I have also tried 16. I will try 15and see what happens.

Thanks for you responses.

It does vary from router to router, some like TKIP, some like AES, you need to work out which works for you. Also ensure your router firmware is up to date , the very latest

I confirmed that the only way it works is by keeping the wireless open. No other combination  of security scheme and number of password characters works.
