xbox live slow and laggy

(im not sure where to post this topic but yeah)

whenever i connect to live it's all good and everything but when i play games online (like black ops, halo) it lags like hell. also my is computer my internet slows whenever im playing a game on xbl. i did a speed check while playing a game i got like 1 - 3 mbp/s  while usually i get like 18 - 20 mbp/s whenever im not on xbl. does xbl really take up that much bandwidth? i go on netflix on my xbox its all good, i get full bars and my Internet still goes top speed. is it my router? never had a problem with my router before? maybe there's a setting i didn't do? what could i do to to fix this?

i have a netgear WGR614

also at best i get full signal strength but i dont hear people talking on mic my nat is on and all the settings are correct (i think)

Well  you could try disabling UPnP, and then place your Xbox in the DMZ feature on your router.

I suggest looking up your router's manual online for more information on that process.

Try leaving UPnP on while setting up the DMZ. If you shut it off, you'll no longer have automated ports for anything else in your network.

The DMZ for Netgears is located under WAN Setup and it asks you to type in the IP address of the device you want in the DMZ (The Xbox's IP Address) and to check the box next to it. Then save and that should work.
