XBOX Live renewal

Hello, I need some help. When I went to renew my previous gold account using a 3 month card, I was sent to a screen which asked for my username and password for security purposes. However, when I typed it in, i received an error code saying the email wasn't associated with the account. I went through the steps of a password change and what not and when I finished, the site made me a new account rather than keeping my old one. Now I have no idea what to do and I cannot access my old account. What should I do?

Well when you turn your console on and sign into the old account under silver/free membership it should show your email at the top of the screen. Does this match the email you initially attempted with the 3 month pass? If its something different  that may the issue. If you attempted to use a different email not affliated with your proper account, the system may not have been doing a password change as much as it sounds like it was creating a new accout with the incorrect, unused email. My guess is that is where the problem stems from. Double check the email and get back to me.
