Xbox Live Random Disconnects

I had a post about this awhile back but I can't access it on my phone and I don't feel like booting up my computer, sorry. Anyway I connect just fine recently just bought the black adapter and when I disconnect it blinks one time. I think that it is my USB ports because I have tried every one and it always does it also one of my ports doesn't even power it up and another one if you move the adapter ever so slightly it turns off. There is only one port that doesn't suck too bad but I still disconnect with that one too. Anyway I was just wondering if this is enough to confirm that the USB ports are broke, and if they are does anybody have a fix for the problem besides buying a new Xbox?

Does the status light on the wireless network adapter not light up when you try on a different USB port?

Hmm, blinking green light means that it is attempting to connect.  How far apart are the console and router?  Any walls in the way?  We might want to get 'em closer just to test.

Can you give us information on the type of xbox you are trying to connect with? If it is the more recent model then it should have built in wireless (which I have only seen rear usb ports on this model), In which case the adapter might be confusing the adapter due to two signals getting mixed up. I would check the model of the xbox (the power button would be chrome if it has built in) and/or try to wirelessly connect without the sepeate adapter plugged in. Also check the type of router you have plugged in, you want to makesure you have the xbox in range (walls and other obstructions may have an effect on how far the xbox can be plugged in) and if your router dosn't have enough bandwidth that may also cause you issues.

I have an old xbox if that helps at all. In regards to the distance they are on complete opposite sides of the house and I have always suspected that this was the problem and the the router that our ISP provided to us just sucks, but because of my age I am in no position to change the ISP that my family has. I also have a wireless repeater which I have 4 out of 4 bars on but my xbox can't connect to it. I also have a gaming PC right next to my xbox (I switched them around so the PC wouldn't be in the way of the signal) and it has no internet problems and downloads games in an hour to half an hour. My router is actuallly a gateway its the Cisco DPQ 3925 I haven't been able to find any places where people have had problems with its signal dropping any help would be appreciated.

Hey again!  OK, so that speed test looks OK.  Could you move the console up close to the router and try connecting that way?  That'll help us know for sure whether it's a simple connection strength issue or not.
