Xbox LIVE Gold

I just renewed my account and bought the gold membership, logged in via xbox.com and it says I'm a gold member, however, when I sign in using my xbox is still says live free account. I can go into account management and it says gold but i still can't log into any games because it says my account is not authorized to do so. Is there an option or something I'm missing to switch it over from free to gold?

Go to network settings and test your connection.  It takes a while for the gold to populate the account.  Testing the connection will speed up the issue.
