xbox live gold memebership required to use xbox music on xbox?

Hi all,

is it correct that I need to have an xbox live membership to use my xbox music pass on my xbox? After my gold membership expired yesterday I can't use Youtube and Internet Explorer anymore which is already quite ridiculous, but I am surprised that this is also for the music service, as I actually already pay with the xbox music pass. Do I seriously need to pay twice or have I overseen something? Just to make sure I went to the xbox music pass info page, where MS states:

  • Play songs an unlimited number of times.
  • Download an unlimited number of songs to your computer and sync them an unlimited number of times to your Windows Phone. For more, see Using Xbox Music Pass on your computers and devices.
  • Stream music from the Xbox music store to your Xbox console. You can also use Smart DJ on your Xbox console to listen to spontaneous playlists.
There is no hint saying that a gold membership is required :-(
Thanks,
Steffen

Thanks Malacath for your repy.

Well Microsoft, if someone of you should ever read this I can only say that this is not clearly not acceptable, it was basically misleading advertisement including hidden costs making me buy an xbox. Now I need to think if I pay twice as much or get rid of the box again as it is pretty useless now.

It's always good to read the fine print.

Compatible devices and internet required; ISP fees apply. On Xbox 360, Xbox Music Pass is streaming only and also requires an Xbox LIVE Gold membership (both sold separately).

You don't need an Xbox LIVE Gold membership in order to listen to music with the music pass on a Windows Phone, Surface Tablet, or on Windows 8. You will however, need it for the console.
