XBOX LIVE GOING TO EXPIRE SOONER??????

Hello

Not sure if I am posting in the right area but here goes. I'm going to explain the best way I know possible.

1. I redeemed a xbox live gold 12 month pre-paid card on the 30th december 2010

2. I had some gold left so it said xbox live will expire 20th january 2012

3. I decided to purchase 1 month of xbox live using www.xbox.com and my credit card. I figured no harm because it would just add on. I was testing the xbox live rewards thing.

4. After the 1 month purchase it said xbox live gold will expire 20th february 2012

5. Just out of curiosity I checked my xbox live account today and it said my xbox live gold will be renewed on the 20th july 2011.

So according to me I have lost 7 months of xbox live gold. Can anyone help me with this?

I  believe your renewal date and expiry date are not the same thing.  By purchasing a sub with a credit card you turned on "automatic renewal" (UGH). While your expiry date should remain feb 2012, you will be stuck renewing 7 months ahead (ex, on 20th july you will pay $10 and the expiry date will become mar 2012, then 20th aug you pay $10 and it becomes apr 2012).

The only way past this is to call support and turn off automatic renewal.

Hello everyone so I decided to purchase a 3month xbox live pre-paid card. (it is the easiest way for me to turn off automatic renewal)

So when I redeemed it it went back to its original date. So I didn't loose the 7 months.

Thanks for the replies Toad 004

Hi there, Slushpuppyza.

  1. You can stack up to 36months / 3 years of xbox LIVE Gold subscription onto one account.

  2. The only way to turn off automatic renewal is to call the xbox support line for your region, it does not turn off if you redeem a pre-paid card subscription before your renewal date.

  3. The reason to why you saw the new date of '20 July 2011" was because you purchased the month subscription with your credit/debit card. The date shown always refers to the latest subscription which was redeemed / purchased on the account.

  4. You need to contact the xbox support line before the new 3 month subscription expires, otherwise your account will renew and your credit/debit card will be charged.

I hope this helps clear things up a bit.

@MeanMachine 47

Actually I have found that using a pre-paid card actually does switch off AUTO RENEWAL. I was on month by month xbox live before and then used a 1 month pre-paid voucher. After that I didn't really play online for 2 months. My account reverted to a silver account.

Also it does state in your Account management that AUTO RENEWAL is off. I have found that this only works with 1month, 3month and 12month pre-paid gold. 48-hour trials don't seem to work.
