XBox Live for the family

How is a family supposed to use XBox live? My son has a live membership. I have a zune membership, but i need a live membership for some of the entertainment options. Plus my windows phone 7 needs me to have a Gold Live account to send messages

Xbox seems to be built for a single user how do we share it? I am not paying for another live membership , and i dont really want to give my kids the ability to charge against my credit card. Plus i dont really want to have to sign in and out all of the time into Xbox.

Does everyone just share one account?
