xbox live connection

I am trying to connect to xbox live using the built in wireless adapter in the xbox 360 S. The xbox seems to think there is an ethernet cable plugged in when there isnt. It wont allow me to choose wireless network on the available networks page. I have tried restoring factory defaults however this has not worked. There is no cable plugged in!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

So if I understood correctly, you are able to select WIRED network without any ethernet cable?
