Xbox live can't connect.

Ok, so here's the situation: I've had xbox live since xmas more or less, connected to the 360s. Very few problems, occasional disconnections but nothing major. two weeks ago, my housemate also got a 360s and we bothe had a connection, all fine.

Then a few days ago, neither of them would connect. We've tried everything we can think of; increased MTU to 1458, power cycling, port forwarding, changing IP addresses to static, calling the ISP, who are saying that there are no problems on their end, all ports are open, so after a few calls to xbl support and the ISP, doing everything we can think of but we're at a dead end, so we decided to turn to the forums...

When testing the connection, on the more info screen, I get:

"Your console is connected to the internet but can't contact Xbox LIVE.

Turn your router or modem off and back on, then wait 30 seconds.

?Have you restearted your router or modem?'

Second suggestion is:

'Your console is connected to the Internet but can't contact Xbox LIVE.

Your router or ISP may be blocking access to Xbox LIVE.

On your PC, go to your router configuration webpage and make sure port 3074 is open on your firewall. If it is open, it may be blocked outside your home network. Contact your ISP.

If you're not familliar with networking, you can get help with firewall ports at www.xbox.com/networkhelp.'

Sooo... any new ideas?

Hi,

Please read:-

And post back your details in full so that people may help. Also connecting two Xboxes to a router and getting one with a moderate/strict NAT is quite common, not many routers can do this properly, have a read here:- http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/faqs/63-two-xboxes-using-one-router-internet-connection

Thanks

Hey. that first link comes back 'bad request' trying to connect to 'forums.xbox.com/.../uck%20***/9/t/9.aspx'

System is a PAL 360 s with built in wireless, connected to a 54Mbps adsl2+ netgear DG834G v5, ISP is karoo through kingston communications.

Also, connecting straight into the router with the ethernet cable hasn't worked either.

I've read the info on the second link and whilst I understand that we may not be able to have the two running simultaneously, we're not even able to get one on the system at the moment, let alone the two.

As for your connection issue did Karoo supply the Netgear router? Can you access its menu and find out what firmware you are using?

No, they tend to supply smaller, useless little things. We bought this seperately. It updates the firmware every time you log in.

Can you post up the exact version of firmware the Netgear is using?

  • Also I would remove all port forwarding you have set-up for Xbox Live
  • Enable UPnP on the router
  • Ensure your Xbox ip addresses are set to auto
  • Reboot the router and Xboxes and try to connect again

Firmware version V1.6.01.34

Done, done, done, done...

And now it's back to giving me problems over the MTU, which is set to 1458. New status though. W and Z are the same as above, but...

X: 0000 - F001

Y: 0000 - 0000

And do you get MTU failed even with just one Xbox connected to the router? Have you tried MTU back on its default of 1500 and then restarting?

We only have the one plugged in at the moment. the max we can input is 1458 (PPPoA) but we even get this message when plugged straight into the router.

and yeah, we've had to fiddle this around in the past few days, so we don't think it's this. When the xboxes were working before, we had it setup to 1458, we've had it down to 1365 and 1364 over the past couple of days to test that.

The port forwarding is something we've initiated since the service went down too, and we've tried every combination of port-mtu-ip-wired/wireless things we can think of. *big sigh, single tear rolls down cheek*

So how long has it been like this? I'm sorry to say I really do think this issue could be with your ISP Karoo

Can you go into the network settings on each Xbox and run the factory defaults setting also you should consider writing down all of your Netgear settings and then doing a factory reset of the router (be warned though you will loose all settings and it will be like it was when you first unboxed it, so ensure you have all of the info you need to connect back to the internet)

Do you have another router you can try just to be sure its Karoo?
