Xbox Live billing question

So I bought an Xbox live gold subscription on September 10. I let auto-renewal start and at first I wasn't billed until November 10. I was thinking that my first month of live was free, therefore I would start paying for the month of November in November. About 3 weeks ago I turned off auto-renewal, yet today I see a pending charge on my credit statement for an xbox live subscription for December 10.

My question is does xbox bill me when the month is over, or on the day that I subscribe/renew to it.  If xbox bills me on the date of subscription/renewal, why would they put a $9.99 pending transaction on my card if auto-renew is turned off?

As far as "billing" I take my questions to phone support.  If you are in the US the number is 1-800-4MY-XBOX.  They have the tools to look into your account if any other questions come up.  If anything else comes up feel free to ask.

It's quicker to go to http://xbox.com - sign in there - then go to http://support.xbox.com/en-US/contact-us?xr=footnav#0:2:1 and select Request A Call so the very next agent will call you back. You go to the head of the line, and don't have to listen to their 'mostly harmless' music on hold. If you are not in the US then replace the red US above with your country code.
