Xbox Doesn't Recognize USB

I'm trying to install a system update using a USB drive - I've tried all the other ways to perform a system update, and this is the last one left. When I plug the USB drive into the Xbox, nothing shows up/nothing happens. It's an 8 GB flash drive and it is formatted correctly, so there really shouldn't be a problem. Is there any other way to get the xbox to recognize the USB? or will I have to send out the xbox for repairs or whatever

Unlikely. Make sure that your folders are named correctly. It's most likely the sector size that's not set correctly. Format it using Windows' utility, and set the Sector Size to default. Or, format the stick with the Xbox, and then put your update on the stick.

It's a Monster Digital USB drive and it is new - just bought it a few days ago for the purpose of updating my Xbox. Could there be a problem with the console itself?

Sorry to hear it.  What brand is the drive and how old is it?  The issue may be due to the brand or age as some older drives can fail and some brands do not play well with Xbox (ie. Seagate or PNY drives).

I've tried all of those methods and the one I'm left with is installing with a USB flash drive.
