Xbox and PC Same Speakers?

Well, I'm looking to use the same set of speakers for both my PC and Xbox 360. I'm hoping to be able to make them both play audio at the same time.

My current setup for video is the PC and Xbox using the same monitor (I plug and unplug it) using the Xbox 360 VGA cable. For audio, I can plug them both separately, using a AUX cable for the PC, and the 3.5mm jack piece on the VGA cable for the Xbox. The audio system has a 3.5mm jack.

What I want is them both plugged in at the same time, both being able to play sounds. Is this possible? Would a Y splitter work without destroying anything? Would each one be able to play sounds through both speakers?

You'll want a small unpowered mixer to combine the audio signals safely. Rolls makes a nice solid unit, the MX41b. It goes for $45-$50. I've been using one for years with a set of Logitech desktop speakers. It works quite well.
