Xbox 720

Just a thought..

I've read a lot of articles about gamers and developers dont want a new console but i've personally been preying for a new console. I've moved onto PC as I love good looking games.. Dont get me wrong the gameplay still has to be good but I love the eye candy.

But I have some problems

  • Sometimes my PC doesnt play ball.. the other day it just chose not to boot lol
  • My friends dont own a gaming PC to play Battle field with
  • Halo 4 is gonna be awesome but more than likely look out dated.. compared to what I have got used to

Right so heres my thought...

What if the Xbox 720 was just a power house. It uses the same operating system as the 360 and even has all the same game releases.

Call of duty: Black Modern field 7 comes out for both.. have the same servers and controller but the 720 version runs in DX11 and might have the choice for bigger servers and maps but the core off the game would stay the same.

Think you could carry on buying your 360 titles and when you decide to upgrade just take all your games with you.. This would also help with the publishers moaning about pre owned games.

To be honest this could be done right now through the PC. I could buy an Xbox 720 app and then experience all this right now.

Halo 4 in 1080p, 60 FPS, AA, Tessellation and so on. But i would get to play it with my ffiends and enjoy the Live experience Microsoft offers. This could help with Piracy on the PC too.

Just a thought :)

The 720 couldn't use the same operating system as the 360.. Because the 720 has a 16 core Processor for starters & needs entirely different Low level coding + it uses a totally different Graphics processing Unit to the 360 or a PC...

Connectivity wise, it could connect to the 360s Live Network.. But more than likely, it will have a Gigabit Network Adapter on the 720 & games would need a higher throughput through servers, as games online would be more Graphic intense & have more people in one lobby or Map etc..

Yes it could. Windows runs across 16 core processors and single core. just a bit of coding

Only on AMD Servers & Windows Server, which is different to Windows 7 etc...

I've nothing but problems with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with 8 Physical cores on a single CPU desktop... Let alone 16+cores for a single CPU..  The cores are limited by the RAM too...

Well I have one PC with 4 cores and hyper threading 8 cores effectively and I dont have many probs. apart from windows can be P*ss poor and my othe pc has 6 cores and again the same. My brother has a 12 core processor and he is fine too. Its stupid to state it couldnt be done cos off to many cores.. its just down to programing.. simple as that. PS I will be very surprised if the 720 has 16 cores

Well my 8-core processor is running @ 5GHz+ & I can't even Test system with the performance index anymore.. It was 7.9 before I Overclocked it... Multiprocessor Kernel craps out &  I don't use more than 18% CPU load... My brothers RedHat Linux Mod works fine...

I'm not surprised, that the 720 will have a IBM 16-core processor.. IBM has a 64-core processor..

Well never the less you stated that the operating system wouldnt work on an xbox 720.. which is more than likely wrong. Its not even out yet and I still doubt the 360 will have a 16 core processor but you never know.

The consoles never have used Windows 7 in the first place... They use original Windows NT/ NT server coding...

Windows 7 starter is even too big for Console OS storage & would need a big HDD & free space on HDD & Starter doesn't even support 16 core processor..

So you want Forwards Compatibility? Maybe MSOFT will take advantage of this (if it exists) and do it with Halo 4.
