xbox 360s turns on and off randomly

I have an xbox 360s which is about 15 months old, today it wouldn't switch off using the touch pad so had to switch off using controller. tried switching back on but would only work by opening and closing disc drawer. console then switched itself off and then back on a couple of times. Console then switched on and was able to play game for a couple of hours, so finished game and switched off console. the power brick was plugged in and turned on, the console then suddenly started switching itself on and off repeatedly so i turned it off at the plug. Can anyone please help as to what the cause is ?

What colors are shown on your power brick while this is happening? Any console lights besides green?

Hi Link

tried the solution page with not much success. When i first turn on console it rapidly turns on and off with the light on the brick changing from green to orange as it does it. After about 5 mins of this the console stays on but reverts back to the visual default setting of 420p. I go into settings and change it back to 1080p and then it stays ok until the next time i use the xbox and have to do it all again.

Any ideas as i'm still baffled, also its only been doing this since recent update.

Cheers

Try unplugging the power brick from the xbox and the wall when the xbox is off. Blow out any dust from the back of the xbox plug port for the power. Then put everything back in. This could be because the power brick isnt all  the way in which is why it isnt getting enough power to turn on fully. Also try a different wall outlet and a different power brick if you have one. If it still happens then its your xbox. Sorry dude hope I help though

Hey there, have you checked out what color the light on the power cord is?  It may be just the power cord that needs to be replaced.

Hey DZW!

It sounds like the power supply is doing alright, therefore it may  be a console issue.

I would suggest getting your console repaired. Here is How to get your Xbox product repaired if you need any help with that.
