Xbox 360 won't connect to wireless network after dashboard update

After today's update, my xbox360 won't connect to my wireless network at all. It detects the name of the wireless network but cannot connect to it. When I test connection it fails as well.

If I connect xbox directly to my modem with an ethernet cable, the network test detects the internet but does not connect to Live.

If I connect an ethernet cable from my xbox to my router (obviously my router is connected to my modem for this in the right port), the network test fails at detecting internet.

If I try to use the wireless on the Xbox, it detects the name of my network but fails to obtain an IP address from the router as it states.

During all this, my crappy phone or even my old pc can connect to my wireless network just fine. Even if i disconnect everything else from wireless, my xbox cannot get an IP address. So not that my router can't handle the traffic. In any case, before this update everything was working fine.

Microsoft should not release updates that can cause so many problems.

Hi there! Can you try setting your Xbox 360's Network Settings back to their defaults? To do this, please follow these steps:

Reset network settings to the defaults

Note Before you reset the Xbox 360 console’s network settings, make sure that you write down the current settings in case you have to restore them later. If you are using a secured wireless network, you will also need your wireless network password.

  1. Turn off your Xbox 360 console.
  2. Wireless connection only: Unplug the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter from the USB port (if you are using an adapter).
  3. Turn on your console.
  4. Go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  5. Select Network Settings.
  6. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
  7. Select Configure Network.
  8. On the Additional Settings tab, select Restore to Factory Defaults
*Note This resets only the network settings and does not change other console settings.
  9. Turn off your console.
  10. Wireless connection only: Plug the Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter back into the USB port (if you are using an adapter).
  11. Turn on your console.
Wireless only: You will receive a message to configure wireless settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your wireless network.
  12. Test your Xbox LIVE connection. To do this, go to My Xbox, select System Settings, select Network Settings, select Wired Network or your wireless network name (if you are prompted to do so), and then select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

I have done this, and I am still unable to connect; it gives an MTU error which I know is not the *actual* issue..

I got my wireless to work following the new (12/6/11) update doing the most ridiculous and time wasting process ever, but it worked. When I tried to update, the update failed, threw an error code and the wireless stopped working but still recognized network, but couldn't connect to the router. I did the following:

1.) Downloaded update to flashdrive and updated manually. - Worked

2.) Had to remove WPA password and run network unsecured for first attempt of wireless run. - Worked

3.) Put back the WPA password and ran the wireless test again. - Worked.

Note: I tested wired connection prior to password removal and it did connect. I disconnected it and tried the wireless with no success at that point. The wireless did not connect until removing the router password, testing the connection, and finally making the connection all the way to Xbox Live. I was able to put the WPA password back with no connectivity issues after doing a re-scan and confirming it still worked.

Something involved with the update might be causing this, or the update doesn't agree with your network until you open it up and restart it.

If anyone else has success with this method or does something similar, I would pass it around. If this method fails, look for an alternative.
