Xbox 360 Slim Grinding Noise

My Xbox has been making a grinding noise for the last couple of days and it's starting to annoy me. I have the console vertically on a flat surface in a cabinet following with it's box as well which goes from orange to green. Should I have it in a certain way?

Hello VeteranVicious,

Having it vertically on a surface is perfectly fine. The grinding noise could be a number of things, but you also mentioned the light turning from green to orange.

One thing it could be is that it's overheating, because it's in your cabinet. Does you cabinet have good air flow? Try setting it on top out in the open, or get more air flow. Have you gotten any errors at anytime?

Another possible problem is it could be your disc tray not properly placed in your Xbox, only way that could be fixed is to send it in; you could always try to mess with that to see if it could be that.

If you have anymore information you could provide, it would be great.

the light is fine, It's the exact opposite. It may be something to do with the disc tray because I can see a crack in between it..

Hey there Veteran,

Sorry to hear you're having issues with a grinding noise.

  • Have you tried playing with your console horizontal and see if you hear the same noise?

Also, what exactly do you mean you see a crack between it in your disc tray?
