REPEAT FOREVER AND EVER

Basically, the xbox is ALWAYS in a state of opening the disc tray. As soon as the tray finishes closing, the xbox opens it again. It will never even begin to try and read the disc that you slip in.

I got this xbox on black Friday last year.

I'm in Korea right now so I'm not shipping the stupid thing back.

No *** answers please, I don't have time for them. A *** answer would be something like "check the grounding" or "clean the touch sensor."

Do you have flourescent lighting in the room near the console? Multiple users have reported odd behaviour including random tray openings, turning on or off by itself among other less common errors. If you have lighting like this, it may be the source of the issue.

It sounds like you need a repair. I know you don't want to send it back, but if that's all you can do, than you should do it. I would at least.

Click here to request a repair. It will be under warranty if you just bought it last year.

Strange enough, I bought my launch console when I lived in S.Korea.

I'd rather just void my warranty and try to fix it as opposed to waiting. It's going to be at least two or three months before I get it back.

I just managed to switch my problem from it not wanting to stay closed to not wanting to stay open. I pushed the tray like 1/4th of the way closed then hit the open button. It then opened fully and then closed itself. NOW, when I push the button to open it, it closes itself like 2 seconds later. I think that might be quick enough for me to drop in and take out a disc assuming it tries to load the game when it closes.

Just dropped my controller on my disc drive while swapping games. The discs are fine but the disc tray must have been wiggled out of place because now it wont close. When I finally got it to close it doesn't read discs or open up without me using something to pry it open. any help?

I encountered this problem today after unplugging everything from my console and clearing the dust out.  It appears that the xbox never fully realizes that the disc tray is opened.  This isn't a fix-all, but better than sending in in my opinion.  What I did to fix was manually push the disc tray back inside the xbox.  Then I shut the xbox off and restarted.  Now, don't use the eject button to open the tray.  Simply use the option on the dashboard to open.  The drive still doesn't realize it's open and it'll show opening on the dashboard, but it will time out after a short period of time and close automatically.  Hope this helps.
