Xbox 360 PC Controller with Wireless Reciever issues

The Wireless Reciever has a solid green light when plugged into a powered USB 2.0 port. The Xbox 360 Controller is fully charged and working properly. After 2-3 months of off and on usage, now when I turn on the controller it seems not to function at all. All guide lights flash when the Guide button is held down, and the Wireless Reciever flashes after held. Yet when I press the connect button on the Xbox 360 Controller, It cycles the Guide lights for a split second, and then returns to all the Guide lights flashing and the Reciever is not flashing anymore. How should I fix this problem or is it a common defectivity?
