XBOX 360 keeps restarting by itself

After turning it on for barely 10 min, it'll shutdown and restart and the cycle repeats.

I've checked the fans at the back and they're working. I've unplugged the hard disk and turned it on but the same thing happens. I've re-inserted the hard disk and tried again but the console behaves the same way.

I can't figure out what's wrong. Is it possible that the DVD Drive is faulty somehow? Is it due to overheating? I don't see any dust accumulation anywhere too. I even placed a fan directly at it but it still reboots after a short play time (10 minutes or so).

The XBOX 360 that I have is from 2006.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

By the way, I'll check the power brick again. I have 2 XBOXes from the same era so any suggestions on changing parts to check for potential problems?

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. I have the new 360 slim and have had it for a couple months and it just started acting up. The power bar displayed a yellow light, and when it restarts all four rrod quadrents light up green, then the console restarts.

I believe the power supply is the issue as it has a red light on it. One thing you could try would be to try the power supply from your spare console with the console that is currently having issue's and see if you are still having issue's. If your console works then you know it is the power supply and you can contact Xbox support to have a fulfillment for a new power supply created.

Some other things you should try would be to plug the power supply directly into the wall and also try a different power outlet and see if you have the same issue. I hope this helps.

When the console shuts down do any of the RROD quadrants light up?, 2 maybe?.

My console has one, two or three red lights.
Hopefully something in here will help you, if not and there are no other suggestions you may need to contact support to order a service/repair.
But fingers crossed someone else will have other options for you to try first.

EDIT: What colour is the light on your power-brick?.
And have you tried removing all the cables from the console and re inserting them.
If you do get 2 red lights make sure your console has plenty of space on either side and above it for adequate ventilation. Most likely it already has though.
If you remove the HDD completely and use the console does the issue still occur?.

Go to system settings, console settings, display, screen saver and mine was set to ten minutes. After I disabled it the problem went away

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The light on the power brick is amber and I have tried removing all cables and reinserting them but to no avail.

I didn't get any red lights at all. It just suddenly reboots and then restarts again. I've removed the HDD completely and the same thing happens too. Looks like I have to send it in for repair. Is it possible that its too dusty internally? Or there's a hardware issue.

Just wondering what's the potential repair cost for it.

Thanks!
