Xbox 360 can't connect to xbox live and freezes when using xbox guide.

I have recently been having troubles with my xbox 360 when i turn it on it  takes 2-3 minutes to load the dashboard and it does not connect to live. When I try to sign into live it says cannot connect. I use to be able to connect but now i can not. It freezes when i use the xbox guide i tryed redownloading my profile, restarting my router, cleaning my cache. any suggestions?

You could have 2 different issues here.  If the dashboard is taking a long time to load (or anything else) it could mean the HDD or the storage you use is failing.  Can you put your profile on a flash disk, then remove the HDD and try to start it to see if it's faster? This may rule out or confirm one problem.  As for the network, you can check your settings and do a connection test.  If you have been using wireless, try it wired in order to troubleshoot.
