Wont read discs, getting a clicking noise :/

When i put in a disc, sometimes the tray will just open right back up. When i get it to stay closed, i dont hear the discs spinning, i just hear a faint clicking noise coming from inside the disc drive and on the screen it will just say "open tray". I have an old school white system and the last thing i want to do is pay for a 250 GB console and transfer wire when im trying to save up for an xbox one......any idea how to fix this or suggestions? I tried using a lens cleaner disc which basically did nothing. Bah!

Unfortunately your DVD drive has failed and is in need of repair. The clicking sound is probably the laser carriage being stuck and not moving on the thumb screw. You can contact Microsoft support to schedule a repair, which I believe runs between $80 and $120 for an out of warranty console. We cannot offer any self repair advice in these forums, nor would I recommend it. It is cheaper to do it online than over the phone, here is the link: support.xbox.com/.../repair-process.
