wireless network connection troubleshooting

See i have an xbox 360 s console and a wireless network, and most of the time when i try to connect to the network it does'nt work. But sometimes it does, but about 50% of the time i lag and if it lags really bad it disconnects. but other days it works perfectly, but not most of the time. I have a gateway and i have tried every single solution but it only temporarily works. if you have the solution to my problem i would appreciate it if you would help me with my dilema.

To Vibroplex,

yes it does work with an ethernet cable but to connect it i have to move my xbox 360 across the entire house.

Make: Arris TG862 Model 5. Both the dmz and port triggering are disabled, the port forwarding is enabled but none are set up. I have 3/4 bars.

An Ethernet cable run can be up to 330' (100 m). If you run cable through HVAC ducts make sure to use 'plenum' cable.
