Wireless contoller not working but works wired

Hi, I have a Xbox wireless controller that is no longer working wireless.

I have checked that

1. the batteries are not dead and have replaced

2. my seperate plug & play battery pack is charged

3. that the controller is synced to xbox

I have been able to narrow it down by using the plug and play wired cord to a fault somewhere inside the controller which is not getting power to/from the battery pack. As the wired cord works perfectly, turns on console and all buttons work.

I could just use the cord to use the controller but I wouldn't be able sit on the sofa and play.

The controller was purchased as part of Xbox 4gb console and controller in the box from PC World, UK - December 2010.

Should I return the controller to PC World (even though it was a console & Controller in box and I will be just returning controller)  for a replacement or go through Xbox?

Have you tried using standard AA batteries in the controller, instead of the Play and Charge Battery Pack?

Im not sure if they would only be able to refund the controller. You may have to purchase a new one instead of getting a refund.
