wired xbox connection

My xbox won't detect ethernet cable.I've tried different cables still won't work. When I try to set up xbox live it says to use a wired internet connection make sure an ethernet cable is connected to both your console and your router or modem.  Help I can't find out how to fix this.

Gonna be honest with you bro, it definitely sounds like a hardware malfunction.  You can try resetting your network settings to factory defaults (My Xbox, System Settings, Network Settings, Wired Connection, Configure Network, Additional Settings Tab, Reset To Factory Defaults) and then clear your cache x2 (My Xbox, System Settings, Memory, Y Button for Device Options, Clear System Cache), recover your GamerTag, reboot your console and network (a.k.a modem/router etc.) and see if that helps.  If not, you're looking at a repair through Microsoft.  Hope that takes care of it bro, if not, best of luck to ya :-)
