Why get an Xbox

I do not understand why people support Xbox, I have a NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Playstation, and Playstation 2. All of those consoles still work to this day, however the other day I received the 'E74' error. I've read about people having 5+ xboxs just because of these crashes and errors... I don't understand how a console from the 80's could still be working, but people can go through multiple xboxs? What stinks is that I have to pay $100 to fix it and it takes a month to get it back... like seriously? I might as well get a new console.

Xbox Live is a whole other ripoff, Playstation has their network for free but Xbox Live charges $60 a year for their online game play?

I'm throwing my xbox in the dumpster & cancelling my xbox live account  and buying a PS3.

Why get an xbox?

Well, personally, so i can play Alan Wake, PGR 4, the Halo games, Fable, Gears of War trilogy, Geometry Wars 2, Trials, Forza, Dance Central, Rez HD, Shadow Complex, Fez, Crackdown, Splinter Cell, Kinect Sports, Left 4 Dead....

Basically, there are tons of world class games on 360 that you can't get on any other console, i think that's what keeps most people coming back.

Oh dear, i think i've turned into a 360 fanboy.

Xbox Consoles are like babies, you need to tend to them properly. Follow the guides that tell you how a 360 console should be handled and placed and you'll never get an issue.

If you were to be daring (and willing to void your console) by opening it up, you would notice that it is far more complex than even the original Xbox. Not only does it draw more power, but it has more in terms of.. well.. everything, inside of it.

When it comes to paying for Xbox Live versus a free PSN, you actually have to think about the logistics involved. With each person paying for Xbox Live, that is one less bug that makes it to your dashboard, one less bug in a game you love to play, one less day that Xbox Live is down. When you offer something for free, you basically tell the consumer that not only will your product be lacking in support but also in security and standard functionality.

You also have to understand that these people that have to replace their consoles multiple times, they are playing past the advised period of time. Your console is not supposed to be running for 4+ hours a day. Honestly, I read a while back that it was only supposed to be run about 3 hours a day, and the console didn't even like being used that often. With the complexity that comes with todays consoles, you also get a burden of responsibility. You have to know how to care for your device... be it a laptop, smartphone, gaming console, or even dvd/Blu-ray player.

If you care to know, I've only replaced my console once, in the past 5 years, and that was only because I burnt out the dvd drive from over-use.

Rather than get into semantics, it seems you have already decided your next course of action.

Good luck to you and your console endeavours, just for future reference this sub-forum is not the right place to post something like this, or anywhere else for that matter. If we post on an Xbox forum, they most of us own an Xbox meaning people who post about moving on to try and attempt to get other people to move onto other consoles and such is deemed to fail. I understand you might want to vent your anger for some reason, maybe do it on a social application like Facebook or Twitter, it serves no purpose here.

This forum is for troubleshooting, not for ranting against a product.

This is an Xbox support forums, not a forums it express your views on the Xbox 360 or on Microsoft.

But you did mention you have the E74 error so here is some details for you.

The warranty period for three flashing red lights and the E74 error is three years from the original purchase date of the console. If your console is out of the three-year warranty period, you can still receive console repair service for a fee.

If you wish to arrange a repair then please go to .http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-360/repair/repair-process

You mean that FREE Playstation Network, where everyones credit card and bank account details got hacked from not so long ago? Hmmmm. You get what you PAY for.

Xbox Live is the best online gaming service that currently exists on the planet. And thats not being a fan-boy (before I get flamed) thats based on hard facts. Microsoft have nailed the online gaming service and have the biggest community that supports that.

And yes, WE ALL PAY for this fantastic service.

everyones credit card details did not get hacked actually,i had a ps3 through out this time and mine didn`t ,neither did anyone on my friends list.

the whole situation was blown totally out of proportion by the media.

until they find a way to stop the hackers on so many current games, they still have a lot of improving to do.
