Why cant i renew my xbox live gold ?

ok my gold runs out on 31st december, i have purchased a 3 month redeemable code but when i try to redeem it i get a message stating "this payment option cant be used" i cant redeem it on console or website. i have also added a new payment option to my profile and tried to buy more gold with my credit card an i also get the same error.  I have updated my billing info an recovered my profile numourous times any help would be apprieciated
