Why can't I put my 3 month live card in

I get on today to put in my xbox live gold 3 month card in and when I go to redeem the card it tells me that it can't retrieve information from xbox live please try again.it also gives me a status code 80169D94.what do I do and how do I fix it.

That code usually means your account has been locked from making purchases. to fix it, go to https://billing.microsoft.com and update your information, then call support and talk to billing to unlock your account.
