"HDD" is an acronym for "hard-disk drive". Check the site you bought it from again, it is possible you misread "250GB hard drive". Hard drives for the Xbox 360 are only measured in number of gigabytes, or GB for short.

Having a hard drive is essential for certain functions of your console. For example, if you have a large number of original xbox games you need a HDD to be able to play those games. BattleField 4 requires an install to the HDD and can only be installed on a HDD. If you purchased a 250GB drive you should be good to go.
