I have an Xbox 360 Elite that is going in for repairs next week, and I would like to know how best I can look after my consol so this doesn't happen again. This is my second repair. Please help.
Keep it in a well ventilated or cool area.
Install your games to the hard drive, so it doesn't spin, which will save from wear and tear and will also reduce the heat.
Did this solve your problem?
Sorry this didn't help.
Great! Thanks for marking this as the answer.

What is the best way to position my console? Some people I have asked say on its side but others say upright.
It doesn't really matter, but if you want to know, I have mine upright.
There is one more question I can think of. You've been great help so far, thanks. Should I cover it with a light cloth to keep the dust off at night when the power is completely off?
Not a problem mate, I'm glad I'm able to help :)
I guess you can, but ONLY when it is off, otherwise it will block the vents, which will cause it to overheat.
Is it alright to plug the 360 into a surge adaptor that is also being used with a TV, VCR and Laptop?
I would assume so. I have a surge protector that has my Xbox 360, PC, laptop, printer, router, cordless phone all plugged in.
However I do not take any responsibility if anything happens with your hardware.
