What does it means by format my USB?

Hey xbox. I just put my usb device into my xbox because I needed to save a few backups of my borderlands 2 save but when I go to select the device it says that it's not configured and requires to be formatted. What does this mean? Also I can't use cloud storage because I don't have an xbox live connection, I play offline (I made this account purely so I could ask this question).

Thanks.

Hello there.

When you format your USB device you are clearing all of the contents on the drive and the xbox will reserve the space for the xbox storage.

You should always save a backup of all work/information on your USB drive before proceeding with these steps as all information will be lost.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Once formatted on the console, USB drive can only be used on the console.

It will not be usable on your PC without first reformatting it.

This is all because the system of the xbox is different than a computer, so any device attached needs to be configured properly for it.
