My 360 is displaying the same defect. I have a lot of saved games and can't transfer my data with the cloud feature unless I go gold. Nice way to trap your customers Microsoft. This is ridiculous. When will XBOX learn to fix the bugs before they ship their systems out the door?

Hey Lasers, do you own any pets? Is it possible that someone in your home or apartment complex has a controller synced with your console, who may be opening and closing the tray that way?

Actually, pushing the disc tray in halfway is an acceptable troubleshooting method for certain error codes. :)
4: while your xbox is off push you disk tray in half way
@OP, I'm not sure if this is the best idea.  The chances of damaging the disc tray are greater if you operate it without power.  Intentionally operating the Xbox disc tray while not powered may also void your warranty.  I'm not sure if the problem here is disc drive failure.

By chance, is your Xbox console 4G?

Hey Cyber idk if this will fix your issue follow my steps

1:turn you console on (dosent matter if ur online or not)

2:Open you disk tray and keep it open

3:unplug you power cable from the xbox while the disk tray is still open

4: while your xbox is off push you disk tray in half way

5:plug your 360 back in and turn if on by pressing the power button not the controller

6:it should not open and close uncontrollably :) dont worry ive tried it on mine and it works GL

You can remove the update from your HDD, but you will not be able to access Xbox Live.  This is the first "possessed Xbox" I've heard of, but the latest update is seemingly conflicting with certain consoles.

Have you tried to clear your memory cache or re-install the update?
