Weird Sound Issues.

Hi, i have an XBOX 360 S 250gb, and everything with it is fine, all games play perfectly, and with perfect sound, however, if i try to watch a DVD the picture is there but the sound coming from my TV is a really high pitched whine, and a buzz too. i cant for the life of me understand why! any suggestions would be awesome.

i have already tried the console on a different TV and used a different HDMI cable on both TV's and there is the same problem everywhere.

Many Thanks.

Try going to console settings and changing your Digital Output. If this doesn't work, reply back and I will try and find another solution for you.

You may need to use the optical audio out on your 360, yes, it has one, it's on the cable. Sometimes, there is an HDMI "off/on" setting in the menu of your TV or DVD player. Are all your settings set properly on your 360 and TV? If all else fails, use the optical audio cable.

Hi, I don't know if I explained myself properly, I've had the XBOX since April and have been using it as a DVD player since then as well as gaming etc. It was only last night that this problem started, I am 100% sure that the HDMI cable is set-up properly, and I have tried it on my older XBOX PRO from 2008, all DVD's work perfectly on that machine, just not my newer S version, and it's a recent thing. i'm very confused.

Via HDMI, I only have this connected via HDMI, everything else is connected via SCART. there is no problems with the HDMI lead as i have checked it with my other XBOX (an older model) and i have no other sound issues (gmaes and streamed media from my PC are fine) it's only when playing DVD's. i really don't know what else to do!?!

I had something similar happen to my laptop once. It was an issue with the disc drive. Ive never heard of something like that with a console, but now that official support is looking at this thread you should have an answer in no time! Good luck.

Alright - would it be possible to test the console with the issue via another method of connection? Just so that we can positively rule the issue to be with the console's drive or HDMI connection. :)

ok,. i found the AV cable and have tested the xbox with a DVD in, and there is plenty of sound coming from it! no problem what-so-ever! i am gonna go and get a different HDMI cable at the weekend and try that too, just in case. i cant try the other HDMI cable as it is nailed down on the skirting board otherwise i would. so i still dunno what it could be, i know it's not the TV as i have tried the HDMI in my neighbours blu-ray player and the cable is ok.
