video failure

ive had my 360 for the last few years, 20 gig refurbished model i got back from microsoft when my 1st one died. a few weeks ago i put in borderlands, loaded it up, but the color resolution was wrong when it came on screen. when i went back to the dashboard, the color was still distorted. i tried to reboot it, but when i did, i heard the xbox 360 chime, but there was nothing on screen. now its stuck like that, audio but no video. yesterday, my buddy loaded up fallout new vegas, played for a few hours, then the same thing happened to him. is there a way to home fix this, or are we gonna have to call up xbox and pay 100$?

can give more info if needed

When you say it happened to your friend is that on the same console?, and does this happen with all your disc's?..

And have you tried any troubleshooting steps?, different leads etc.

no, it happened on each of our own consoles, his is a 20gig halo edition. its never happened to either of us before, not with any game, borderlands or fallout NV. i bought a new av cable, same problem. tried all combinations of component and composite video cables on hd and nonHD tvs, wiggled em, nothin. tried booting with RT+Y for reset, no effect. the only thing i get is some flicker effect for a moment when i boot my 360, kinda like static, then it goes back to black, disc or no disc. and no flashing lights.

I have this exact same issue! Mine has done this a couple of times: flicker and freeze but the sound is there. Most recently I ran an update and it rebooted to this. I did all the same things you did. Nothing. I'm fairly disappointed :(

Does the Xbox appear to power on? Do you see green lights on the Ring of Light and a green light on the power supply?

If trying multiple cables, multiple TVs, and the Display Reset procedure all do not work, your console is likely in need of a repair. You can check warranty status and set one up here: myservice.xbox.com/.../Welcome.aspx
