Very disappointed...Part chat problems

I know it's still early in the Xbox One life span, but I find some things quite ridiculous. Never mind the fact that I bought BF 4 and can't play online with a friend (apparently you have to pay extra for that? Seriously?), but I can't even chat with my friend.

First of all, the XBox One is very cool and whatnot, with it's cool new layout etc, but for god's sake, can you please implement an easier way of a) seeing messages b) seeing who's online c) managing a party chat.

You can say I'm over reacting, that all you have to do is press the Xbox button and then go to the left on the dashboard and click that section (whatever you want to call it, that displays your profile/friends etc), but on the 360, the "older" console, you pressed the xbox button and you saw it all there. Very easy. You didn't have to completely go to a different page and do all that.

SECONDLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I cannot even enter a party chat with a friend!!!! I mean, what year is this?! How much did I pay for this console? Nevermind the headache of getting to your friends list, but when I click on my specific friend's name, there's NOT EVEN AN OPTION OF PARTY CHAT.

What's the secret? Don't tell me the Xbox One isn't capable of party chat... I'm already convinced to hop back on my 360 for a few months because I am just so disappointed in the lackadaisical layout of the Xbox One. Implement the simplicity of clicking on the Xbox button on the controller and having messages, friends, and PARTY CHAT... for god's sake...

You don't have to pay extra to play with a friend online through Battlefield.  You do need to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription through Microsoft to play any game online.  And Xbox has had Xbox Live for many many many years...so it shouldn't be a big surprise.

It really is a pain is the a** to do a party chat but here is how to do it.....

1) Go to Games & Apps

2) Select Party - screen pops up on right hand side of the screen.

3) Select Start a Party

4) Then you have to invite whichever friend you want to chat with.

And this is where it's really stupid, after you send an invite to your friend you have to select ""Turn on Party Chat"

To me that's a option I shouldn't have to turn on, obviously I want to chat with someone otherwise I wouldn't be in a party chat in the first place. By default this should already be turned on.

Hope this helps.

My friend and I have tried countless times to play BF4 together. We simply cannot locate an option to invite each other. The only times I have played BF4 online, I have been kicked to the dashboard due to a server crash. Extremely embarrassing if you ask me, and I refuse to bother anymore with that game.

Schweddy, thank you for the detailed response. I will attempt to follow your steps. I remember as soon as I got the console, I did something like this, and when I clicked "Turn on party chat," it would turn on for a second and then back off. Hopefully it works this time.

I think Microsoft needs to make the Xbox One more user friendly ASAP. I am probably going back to the 360 out of disappointment (after I play AC for a while...). Seriously... I shouldn't be regretting purchasing this console... Get it together...
