Upgrading to gold membership issues!?

Everytime i try to upgrade to gold this pops up:  Can't retrieve information from Xbox LIVE.

Any ideas?

That code means you have a billing violation. Go to billing.microsoft.com and make sure everything is correct, up to date, and you don't owe any balances. If you can't fix it there, you'll have to call support and have billing help you sort it out.
