Update just bricked my console

I was just prompted to apply the update on a perfectly fine unit.  The patch downloaded and installed, then rebooted into a 3-light ring.

Just called support.  "We understand that the you feel that the patch has caused this issue, but since your warranty expired 3 weeks ago you'll have to pay to get it repaired".

Then the service rep tried to insult my intelligence by offering a "$20 discount on the repair".  The same $20 discount I could get if I hung up and did the repair through xbox.com myself.

 

Pretty crappy service, Microsoft.

Same thing happened to me, without the red ring. I've posted here and am awaiting some sort of solution. I called support and went through the motions of checking everything with the rep on the phone without results. Then she told me that I'd have to pay a hundred dollars for the repair. I played for hours last night without an issue, and now I can't play a thing without an unreadable error, or getting frozen out of the system within twenty minutes or so.

Same thing happened to me.  The technical support staff had to audacity to accuse me of being a liar when I told them I have never modded or done anything to my system, and since it is out of warranty even if they do see that it has never been modded I still need to pay for the repair.
